Background

The MRC’s Grassroots Army has bombarded ABC and The View's advertisers over 45,000 times—by calling, emailing, tweeting, and posting—demanding a public apology for the blatant anti-Christian remarks by The View's Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin. Instead of an apology, Behar said she was “joking.”

It's time to hold The View's advertisers responsible for supporting a show that endorses anti-Christian bigotry.

“To have ABC maintain a broadcast forum that compared Christianity to mental illness is just wrong. It is simply wrong for ABC to have a television program that expresses that kind of religious intolerance.”

On Tuesday, February 13th, ABC’s The View took the liberal media’s pronounced bias against Christianity to the next level and made vicious and offensive remarks about Christians and, in particular, the faith of Vice President Mike Pence.

Liberal co-host Sunny Hostin used her platform to call Vice President Pence’s Christian faith “dangerous.” Ms. Hostin went on to mock him, saying, “I'm a faithful person, but I don’t know that I want my Vice President, um — speaking in tongues and having Jesus speak to him.”

Joy Behar (who has a history of making deeply obnoxious statements about Christians and conservatives) responded, “That's called mental illness, if I'm not correct. Hearing voices.”

Despite the fact that there are more than 280 million Christians in the United States, the liberal media have long made Christians the targets for their hateful and dangerous religious bigotry.

In his open letter to ABC President James Goldston, MRC President Brent Bozell highlighted previous examples of ABC’s anti-Christian attitude. These included:

  • On a June 1, 2017 episode of the The View, the entire lineup “blamed” Christians for taking away free contraception, likening Christianity to the Taliban: “You can’t hide behind religion to restrict other people’s rights!” host Jedediah Bila slammed. “You’re almost punishing us for having ovaries,” fellow host Sara Haines added. Joy Behar asked, “How is it different from the Taliban?” adding, “Let’s not forget they are trying to keep women in their place, barefoot and pregnant.”
  • On July 12, 2017, ABCNews.com reported on a Jeff Sessions speech to the Alliance Defending Freedom with the following headline: “Jeff Sessions addresses ‘anti-LGBT hate group,’ but DOJ won’t release his remarks.” The “hate-group ” designation for the ADF comes from the highly partisan Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). The shocking thing is that ABC News took that incredible charge from the SPLC for granted, and used it to trash both ADF and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
  • The ABC show Good Christian Bitches, which aired in 2012, portrayed Christians as superficial, carnal, shallow hypocrites. Unfortunately, while the show changed its name to GCB, it never stopped its lewd and offensive caricatures of Christianity.

This behavior is not only repulsive but also wildly hypocritical. The hosts of The View and everyone at ABC would denounce any disparaging comments about Islam. However, their tolerance never seems to extend to Christianity.

Enough is enough! We will no longer tolerate such blatant attacks on Christianity by ABC or any other major media outlet. This issue must be taken seriously. It’s time to make it clear that this bigotry is unacceptable.
